CORDILLERA STATE UNIVERSITY
Cordillera State University is the body of work I created during my first year of graduate school. The idea of this work was to push myself in creating design within a more professional realm. Thus, a university branding came to mind with an entire backstory and concept that tie each of its elements together.

CONCEPT
Cordillera State University was founded in 1895 by Francisco Navarro.  Navarro was a Spanish American geologist exploring the Rocky Mountain range across the western expansion of the United States in the 1870s. Navarro eventually settled in what is now Morrison, Colorado and home to Cordillera State University. Navarro chose Morrison as the place to start his geology institution due to its closeness to the Rocky’s and the unique parallel divides in the mountain range. This geological finding led to the name of the university, Cordillera, which is the Spanish term used to describe a group of parallel mountain ranges. From there, in 1915 it was decided that the university’s staple mascot would be the Guanaco, a camelid native that lives within the mountain ranges and deserts of South America. Guanaco’s are known for their ability to thrive in both high altitudes and desert plateaus, making them the perfect candidate to represent students at CSU, where students are pushed to grow and evolve in any environment.
